Disney CEO is Wrong: Gina Carano Was Fired for Being a Conservative. And That's OK.

So, outrage culture is in full swing over in conservative land. Tune into any of your favorite propaganda channels like Fox or OAN and you’ll see countless interviews of people lambasting the current state of things and how everything is being cancelled. If you only watched Fox News all day, you’d probably be under the impression that Biden, Pelosi, and AOC are regularly out in front of the White House lawn gleefully burning Dr Suess books, Mr Potato Heads, and Washington Redskin jerseys while they chant satanic rituals.

I already went into some detail on why Republican outlets and representatives are doing this on my last post, but to recap; the simple fact is the republican party has absolutely no policies to promote or stand upon, all they have to sell to their voters is outrage. They certainly can’t defend the fact that no Republicans voted "yes" for the wildly popular COVID relief bill, or explain why even after two years of almost getting 20 million people off of healthcare, there still is absolutely no replacement plan offered up. So, outrage they will sell.

Caught up in the media swirl is the recent firing of Gina Carano from The Mandalorian. Even though she was a fan favorite on the show, her tweets were controversial and the last tweet where she compared her struggle of censorship to the struggle of Jews during the holocaust was apparently the final straw for Disney. Conservatives have rallied to her defense, calling the firing unfair and discriminatory to political views and piled it high atop the list of the cancel culture outrage war they’re trying to wage.

In a Disney shareholder meeting on Tuesday, the CEO was asked about the controversial firing of Gina. As a response he said:

“I don’t really see Disney as characterizing itself as right-leaning or left-leaning,” Chapek said. He said that Disney was interested in standing for “values that are universal” such as “decency” and “integrity,” as well as in making “content that is reflective of the rich diversity of the world that we live in.”

Sounds all well and good, but here’s the one problem with that thought; If you are a mainstream republican in America, then probably don’t agree with any of that shit. Universal values of decency and integrity? Rich diversity of culture of the world? That is exactly the opposite of mainstream republican values today and exactly what Gina Carano has been espousing all over her twitter. The simple fact of the matter is that she hasn’t said anything really outside of what you’d hear from many Republican Senators, House Representatives, news casters, and of course, our ex President. Comb through her twitter and you’ll see. Anti mask,

anti trans,

promoting election conspiracies,

anti vax (and anti mail voting all in one),

and finally, having the audacity to compare her struggle with the holocaust;

This is all mainstream right wing talking points, and at this point, its’ basically right wing policy since they don’t actually HAVE policies or proposals to do in government. Disney and other companies can lie all they want, the reality is that Gina Carano was fired for being a Republican and expressing those now mainstream republican viewpoints.

The problem isn’t with Disney, it’s with the fact that the Republican party has completely gone off the rails and has, thanks partially to four years of Trump, redefined what they consider to be normal political talking points and expects everyone to just sit there and do nothing when they talk complete nonsense. And no, Gina Carano has not been censored, her rights have not been violated. She had multiple warnings from producers over the months to cool it off with her garbage tweeting, yet she persisted and was fired by a private company for their own reasons. The US government didn’t step in and arrest Gina or force her to stop talking. No one is making her actually stop talking her bullshit.

Even if every social media company decides to ban her from their platform, she’s still not having her rights violated. This is literally the free market in action and if Disney is a company that values decency and integrity, then yea Republican views in 2021 don’t fit in that whatsoever. I just don't know if these companies will ever come to grips with admitting that.

Replying to

A man who rose to power through populist rhetoric, wasn't taken seriously by his political opponents, had dangerous demagoguery and fascist tendencies, has blamed his nations' problems on the underclass and stirred up vitriol and hate. Gee, who were we describing again?

I know, that comparison is totally unfair and completely equivalent to a highly paid woman comparing push back at her job for constantly posting lies and hateful propaganda to the plight of a Jew in 1940's Germany being stripped of all rights and possessions, being rounded up and packed into trains, and sent to concentration camps where the women and children are murdered and the men are sent to work to death. I can definitely see the similarities…
